Ernie MacDonald Obituary

Ernie MacDonald
Ernest (Ernie) John MacDonald, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle passed away unexpectedly November 23, 2023 at his home in Weyburn at the age of 85 years. Ernie was born on October 17, 1938 on the family farm near Saltcoats, SK. He was raised at Weekes, SK. He became a teacher, first teaching at Hudson Bay Composite School. He met and married Marion and started their family. They moved to Weyburn where Ernie taught math at Weyburn Comprehensive. Two more children were added to their family, and he became vice-principal for eight years while still teaching math. Ernie enjoyed many things in life: coaching high school, curling and minor ball; and participating in curling, baseball, soft ball and golf. Ernie loved camping, playing cards, fishing and dancing. He was an incredible woodworker and loved making intarsia pictures. Ernie loved family and friends who have known him to be very patient and kind. He always tried to be a problem solver not only in math but by listening to students and people. He was a positive influence on many who loved and respected him. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Mabel MacDonald, his in-law Max and Lydia Elgie; grandson Colin MacDonald, and brother-in-law Doug Elgie. Ernie is survived by his wife of 59 years Marion; daughter, Christine MacDonald (Rick Ursu) and children: Skylar, Brynn, Daxton; his son Blaine MacDonald (Stacy) and daughter Brit; daughter Keri McEleney (Mike) and children Victoria, Robert, Lee and Jeremy; great grandchildren Kurtis and Louis; brother Orville (Pat) MacDonald; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. A visitation was held on December 4, 2023 from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from Grace United Church, Weyburn, SK with Rev. M. Barnabas officiating. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK. Honorary Pallbearers were Ernie's great grandchildren, Kurtis and Louis Jernie.
