Kevin Pedde Obituary

PEDDE - Kevin Walter Pedde passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023, at the age of 56 in Richmond, BC, with his wife Susan Holland (Richmond BC) by his side. He was born to Elin Pedde (Yorkton SK) and the late Walter Pedde. Kevin spent his childhood on a small farm in Otthon SK, as an only child his first friends were his pet rooster Charlie Chicken, many devoted dogs, innumerable cats, and cows. He also cherished his friendship with his cousins Curtis, Collette, and Darrin, who lived nearby. Kevin had a deep love for farm life and enjoyed walking through the pasture, inventing games, dirt biking, skating on his homemade rink, and witnessing the birth of new kittens. Even from an early age, Kevin displayed an entrepreneurial spirit, selling eggs and manure alongside his farm work. After graduating from Yorkton Regional High School in 1985, Kevin held various jobs, including as hospital groundskeeper, a role he particularly enjoyed due to its tranquility and solitude. He also worked at Yorkton this Week newspaper before pursuing further education at SIAST's Electronic Service Technician program in Moose Jaw and Deloitte & Touche Entrepreneur Program in Yorkton. These experiences led him to establish PDQ Electronics, where he not only employed his mother but also skilled technicians. Kevin considered owning PDQ Electronics one of his greatest achievements in life. His passion for entrepreneurship was evident in his habit of envisioning business opportunities whenever he passed an empty store front. Kevin also worked for Pitney Bowes in Saskatoon and Gambro/Baxter in Vancouver, and throughout his professional journey, he was highly regarded as both an employer and an employee. In 2006, Kevin and Sue crossed paths at the Saskatoon Airport, and their love story began. Sue was captivated by Kevin's wit, gentlemanly demeanor, and intelligence. Over the years, their love deepened, and in 2008, they made the decision to relocate to Vancouver to continue Sue's dream of living across Canada. In 2010, while cruising with family and friends they were married by the ship's captain, and settled in Steveston BC in 2014. Steveston became their sanctuary, and they adopted their beloved dog, Chloe. Living in a park-like setting near the Fraser River, they built a community of loving and supportive friends who provided immense comfort, especially during Kevin's final months. Kevin's life was full with meaningful conversations, cribbage games, memorable travels, relaxing on the patio, savouring chai at Granville Island, movie outings, and exhilarating motorcycle rides. Kevin touched the lives of those around him with his kindness, generosity, and his capacity for love. He possessed an innate ability to make people feel at ease, his integrity was unwavering; and his words were always interesting, thoughtful, and sincere. Despite his short life, Kevin pursued many passions. He excelled in pool playing, had a talent for cards, reluctantly embraced adventurous travels while harboring an inner homebody, enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, golfing, playing chess, learning German and Spanish, and had an avid interest in World War II history. Sports held a special place in Kevin's heart. He not only played and watched them but also meticulously tracked their statistics. He had unwavering loyalty to his beloved Riders and Flyers, and the Olympics were a source of immense joy for him. Kevin had a diverse taste in music, appreciating the likes of The Rolling Stones, Dean Martin, ABBA, and The Tragically Hip. In 2016, Kevin candidly shared his lymphoma diagnosis, followed by his pancreatic cancer diagnosis in July 2023 and his stroke in September 2023. His openness about his health struggles prompted meaningful and profound conversations. Kevin requested to forgo a traditional funeral; instead, he will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered privately. In lieu of flowers, Kevin wished for people to share a coffee with someone special, mend a broken relationship, reconnect with an old friend, or simply take a moment to reflect and reminisce. Our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Salvation Army Rotary Hospice House and the Richmond Palliative Care team for their exceptional care and compassion. Good bye my love, you will be forever in my heart xo

Sending to you Sue , your family and friends , my deepest condolences. Having worked many moons ago with you but not ever meeting Kevin, I was very captivated by your posts especially after he fell ill and decided to journal his journey. It was both courageous and generous of him to do , not only for himself, but everyone who followed him, I am sure they took something positive away. I would sometimes look for his updates, and from that read, i I learned one thing is for sure..... this world was a much more brighter, kinder, beautiful place with him in it. My heart goes out to you Sue, may you find the strength and light to carry you though these difficult days as you say good bye to the love of your life. Be thankful and cherish the time and memories you made together. You were meant to cross paths and he is not far. Sending Hugs to you.

Although Kevin and I share a surname, we never actually met in person. In fact, we never fully established that we were actually related, although I am pretty sure that we share a common history but just haven't found the link.

Kevin and I were friends on Facebook and I had always hoped that we would meet in person some day. He seemed to be kind, funny, charming and curious about the world -- exactly the sort of person I would appreciate as a real-life friend.

I express my deepest condolences to Susan and to his friends and family. He was one of the good guys, and he will be missed.
