CLEMMONS- Joe Carroll Nelson, 80, of Clemmons, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2011 after a two year battle with cancer.
Joe was born March 15, 1931 in Kernersville to the late James Weldon and Mima Crim Nelson.
He was a 1953 graduate of the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill where he was a scholarship donor and a very devoted Ram's Club member. He was a US Army veteran and worked for RJ Reynolds for 34 years.
Surviving are his loving wife and soul mate, Phyllis Brown Nelson, after 43 years of marriage; three daughters; one son; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one brother, Bobby Crim (Ann) Nelson of Kernersville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2011 at the Mausoleum in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. Frank Vogler and Sons Clemmons Chapel are in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

Joe is a great man that was easy going. I never heard him say a negative thing about anyone. He lead a life based on doing the right thing for the right reasons - reminds me of his dad (my grandfather). Joe lived a peaceful life, passed on the lessons of life he had learned and touched so many of us. So sad that he was called home so soon,

so very sorry to know that my uncle is gone. even though we were miles apart i have nothing but fond memories about Joe. Phyllis, be strong and know that he is in a better place than you or i could ever imagine. Joe, tell Mema and Papa i said hello and that i will see them one day. God Speed!
