Sherry Lynn Clay was born on August 30, 1955 in Quincy, Illinois. At fifty-seven she was called home to Glory on March 11, 2013 from Trinity Medical Center Moline Campus.

Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Second Baptist Church Rock Island, IL. Visitation is 4 - 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hodgson Funeral Home Rock Island. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to QC Kidney Center Moline, IL. On line condolences maybe shared at www.hodgsonfuneralhome.com.

Sherry was the beautiful daughter of the late Ralph B. Clay and Bertha M. Clay. She was a graduate of Rock Island High School in 1973. Later Sherry Lynn earned a bachlor's degree in music/theater from the then Marycrest College Davenport, Iowa. Sherry continued her education at the University of Illinois majoring in child development.

Sherry performed locally for the Music Guild. She was also very decated to music directing and singing at the Second Baptist Church in Rock Island, Illinois. She regularly sang at weddings, taught voice for fifteen years, and piano from home. Sherry also worked at Iowa East Central Train (Annie Whittenmyer) pre-school.

Sherry enjoyed listening to music and Prince was her favorite. Outside of music, watching pro wrestling was another favorite pastime of Sherry's with the UNDERTAKER as her favorite wrestler.

To honor her memory Sherry leaves her loving sister Michelle, brother Henry "C III" and his wife Linn, her Aunt Lillian, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends who touched her life over the years.

With great appreciation, the family would like to acknowledge the wonderful team of doctors, nurses, technicians, dietitians, social workers, and staff at the Quad Cities Kidney Center in Moline, Illinois for their support.

Sherry was proceded in death by her parents Ralph B. Clay, Bertha M. Clay, and her beloved German shepherd Fluffy (AKA Boo-Boo Clay).

A message of thanks from the family:

To everyone,

The words "thank you" don't begin to touch upon how grateful I am for the love given, the prayers, the words of encouragement for uplifting and the warm and comforting hugs that have been shared.

I could go on and on and not tire because your kindness is a tribute to the memory of my beloved, beautiful, and wonderful little sister, the "baby" who shared with my brother the love within my heart. Together they filled my heart and they will continue to be filled with my little sister's memories.

A fond memory will always remain with me because I will hear me saying to my dear sister, "Sherry, tell them who you are." Sherry would respond, " I'm the spoiled brat, but it is not my fault! They did it!" This would be a reference to mommy, dad, brother, and to me, her sis.

Sherry and I were "The Sister Team," and I feel within she will always surround me with her love and the team will forever live.

My brother, Henry C. McElroy, III truly thanks everyone for the kindness also since he was unable to be here. He is here through his deep love and spirit because he always protected Sherry and I... a true BIG BROTHER!!!

God bless each and every one, and please keep our remaining family members in your prayers!!!

Michell and Henry, I will always cherish my childhood memories spent at your house on Saturdays while my mother, Gertrude Walkup was cooking dinners in the basement of the old church. I have such fun and joy filled memories of time spent with sherry at church, singing duets, dancing, listening to music (aka 45's), playing games or just having conversation. She was such a sweet person and I am grateful to have had her in my life. Sherry will be missed. May God Keep and Bless you! Sheila Renee Walkup-Jones

My heart was saddemed to hear that a marvelous voice has been silenced. I think of Sherry and I smile. She was a joyful soul and my life was enriched for having known her. Evelyn C. Kelly, CJHS and RIHS '73.

Ms. Sherry will be dearly missed. Her love for music was evident to all that came into contact with her. I took piano lessons from her when I was little and her soft spoken spirit was her signature style. Knowing her later in life, she had the same soft spoken ways and smile. God bless you and your family.

Sherry was was a true inspiriation to me and many others at the Q-C Kidney Center. Her deligent and courageous battle against diabetes was a Godsend to the human condition and to the human will. Sherry couldn't see me but she always could recognize me by voice. Where a great deal of patients at the Kidney Center exhibited a taciturn attitude toward the doctors, techs and nurses, Sherry's demeanor --- in light of her situation -- was a refreshing and charming distraction as a long-time patient there. She always had a quick smile to flash and I will miss her a lot since she often sat only sat a chair or two away from me in our section. In addition, my heart goes out to her sister, Michelle, who had a heart of gold and arguably one of the top caregivers on this planet. Bye Sherry. -- James R. Gross
