Adelaida Vistro Layson - January 24, 1925 - June 13, 2021

Adelaida Vistro Layson was born on January 24, 1925, to Maria Palisoc Vistro and Protacio Quarismo Vistro. She was the 7th child of 9 children. Growing up, she was fondly called "Imay".
Adelaida completed her elementary education at Urbiztondo Elementary School. She ventured to Manila to live with her sister and attended an exclusive high school for girls at the Manila Central University.
In 1946, while Adelaida was attending her Senior prom, her brother, Antero, who was in the US Navy, surprised her with a quick visit at the prom. Antero was in town for a two-week rest and recuperation leave after a deployment. He brought along with him a friend named Arcenio. Antero introduced Arcenio to Adelaida. Antero and Arcenio only had time for a brief hello since Adelaida was in an all-girls school.
The following weekend, Arcenio came to visit Adelaida at her sister's place. The moment he set eyes on her Arcenio knew she was the one. Arcenio and Adelaida got married on April 1, 1950.
In 1952, Adelaida boarded a USS vessel to join Arcenio in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is where her life as a military wife started. They made their first home at the Naval Air Station Barbers Point Military Base. They welcomed their eldest daughter, Shirley in 1953. In 1955, Arcenio was transferred to Mountain View, California. There they welcomed their second child, David. In 1956, Arcenio was transferred back to Honolulu, Hawaii, and then received orders to go to Kodiak, Alaska for a six-month deployment.
On August 9, 1956, Adelaida was notified that Arcenio was involved in a car accident and did not survive. Adelaida was eight months pregnant with her youngest daughter, Arsenia when she received the tragic news.
At the age of thirty, Adelaida became a young widow. With strength, she managed to raise her children on her own. She had tremendous love, courage, and perseverance and she put aside her own needs to provide the best for her children. She never considered herself a victim or a martyr, but to her children, she was a warrior.
Adelaida had a gracious and generous heart. Her door was always open to all her nieces and nephews. She was a second mother to many, and she was an inspiration to others.
In her midyears, Adelaida met a good friend, Ricardo Cancino, who developed into a lifelong companion. He brought her happiness in her later years, and he was considered a loving member to all her family. Together, they shared loving memories with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Adelaida shared joy freely throughout her ninety-six years of life and is now being rewarded with the same joy and peace that she gave to those who loved her so much.
Adelaida is survived by her children Shirley (Felino), David (Rowena), and Arsenia (Rhodore), Grandchildren Jennifer (Amor), Jason (Salve), Christine (Andrew), Michael, David, Matthew, and Great grandchildren Trinity, Lotus, Thomas, Tyler, Elijah, and Eliza.
Holy Mass and a Celebration of Life will be held on June 24, 2021, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Corona at 4:00pm.
