Aldea Lois Barbato, 88, born on July 3, 1928, in Sioux City, IA, passed away August 28th, 2016. She shared her last beautiful day August 27th enjoying games, singing, sunshine, lemon meringue pie and pretty jewelry. In the arms of her Angels, she gently passed that evening.
She concluded a blessed life shared with her love Angelo Barbato; her three children and their spouses Debra, Renee & Peter, John & Linda; her seven grandchildren and spouses Justin & Rebecca, Christopher, Robin & Marty, Ryan & Stacy, Nicholas, Jason & Jordan, and Eric; and her three great-grandchildren Angelo, Logan and Acadia.
She had a wonderful childhood in Sioux City and Chicago before moving to Glendale with her parents and sister. After high school, she went to comtometer school and worked in an office. Aldea expressed her true leadership and ability to connect people when she was elected vice president/social chair of Glendale's Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). As the Snowball Queen of 1950, she was also a true beauty. She fell in love with her husband the instant he drove up in his blue Buick convertible. Aldea married into a strong Italian family and was a proud home-maker for her three children and her bigger-than-life Italian husband. She was an active volunteer in her children's Catholic grade school, fundraising through selling donuts and assisting teachers and students . . During any celebration, her home was full of endless love and food. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays and keeping her home stocked with activities for all age levels.
Aldea was a great communicator and had a strong sense of humor; she enjoyed telling jokes, naughty or nice, sharing her love of angels, and bragging about her children. With her hair always done and nails pretty in pink, she was a true girly-girl that never wanted to grow up. Toys and trinkets, the shinier the better, brought joy and happiness to her days. Aldea was proud of her collectibles and happy to share the story of each one with anyone who entered her cozy home. With her address book and notes in hand, it was a weekly ritual to go through the list and call up all of her family and distant friends to simply say hello.
Her sweet, perfect smile will be missed by her loved ones, along with her wit and wisdom. She has joined her husband, her parents, Peter, and her many family and friends in heaven. She is now with the Angels that shined over her, and without a doubt she is very giddy about her new wings.
We love and miss our Mom, Grandma and Gigi.
Enjoy your dance with Dad.
