My name is Lavada Carson; my husband and I Gene Carson are members of Christpoint Baptist church where we met Ms. Joy Petry. We fell in love with her and were so sorry to hear about Mr. Doug Petry's passing in March. We haven't been able to contact Ms. Joy to express our sorrow and. to let her know we miss her and are praying for her. Sending my sympathy and prayers to Joy, Karl and family. I also have sent prayer requests to church members at our church, St. John. Prayer works. Mother and Daddy loved you so much and enjoyed having Karls help. I pray that God be with you today and all those days in the future as you work through the loss and grief that death inevitably brings. Gods blessings.

Alvin's Obituary

Alvin Douglas Petry, age 74 of Hockley, passed away March 24, 2020. He was born January 25, 1946 in Houston, TX to Dorothy and Alvin Karl Petry.

He lived his earlier years with his parents on Hempstead Hwy. His dad was a mechanic, so Alvin Douglas learned the trade. Being an excellent mechanic, Doug found his way into racing and building hot rods. He even built a race car with his dearest friend Glen.

In December of  1965 Doug met Joy Kathleen Smith. Two months later on February 28, 1966, after a whirlwind romance they married. This marriage lasted 54 years!

Doug is preceded in death by his parents and son Louis W. Petry and is survived by his wife Joy Petry; son Karl D. Petry and wife Jenny; grandchildren Brooklynn Thompson, Taylor Petry, Ashley Kelly, Kollin Petry; great grandchildren Avery Thompson, Cash Thompson; as well as many friends.  

Visitation will be Friday,  March 27, 2020 from 1-3 pm at Canon Funeral Home. In compliance with COVID-19 restriction set by the CDC, no more than 10 people will be allowed in at one time. Graveside Services will follow at Roberts Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service please use social distancing.
