Celebrating the life of ARNOLD LUGA URBIZTONDO

Arnold, fondly called Yayo or Yoya, joined the Lord peacefully on October 3, 2019 at 7:45 PM at Lakewood Regional Medical Center. He was 79 years old at the time of his passing. Born in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur, Philippines on January 24, 1940 to Vicente Arreza-Urbiztondo and Eustaquia Luga-Urbiztondo.

He attended Cantilan Elementary School and Cantilan High School. He pursued BS in Architecture at National University (NU), Manila up until 3rd year of college. Due to his skills in designing, he became the architectural draftsman for his professor during his freshman year at NU. He started working on his own as an Architectural Designer and Builder in his hometown Cantilan - designing houses, landscapes and parks. He was the Municipal Development Officer (MDO) of Lanuza and served as the Human Settlement Officer and MDO of Cantilan. His projects include the Cantilan kiosk, the plaza, and the Veterans Memorial Shrine, among others.

He was an active member of Confradia de San Jose. He worked closely with Fr. Herman Maalman for church and rectory improvements, where he designed the current altar of the Immaculate Conception Parish. Under the supervision of Fr. Dave Sullivan, he planned, designed and built the entire St. Joseph Memorial Park. He sculpted the statues of St. Joseph, the Virgin Mary for the Unborn Child Memorial and the Resurrected Christ. He conceptualized and built the altar of the Memorial Chapel, which bears the Resurrected Christ with 3 crosses at the back, perched on top of a cave with a stone bearing the following inscription: "Ako ang pagkabanhaw ug ang kinabuhi. Ang nagtuo kanako, bisan mamatay, mabuhi (I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live)" John 11:25. The chapel has one main entry and 12 side entries representing Jesus and the 12 Apostles, respectively.

Yayo was devoted and passionate to his job and projects. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. He was a man of art who deeply loved his family in his own unique way.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Florecita Coleto-Urbiztondo, his 4 daughters, 4 sons, 2 sons-in-law, 3 daughters-in-law, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Yayo, all his life, was surrounded by God's grace.
