I could write a book about Carol as being part of my life. Carol was many things to me, but perhaps most importantly, a mentor. She taught me about the history of Los Angeles, to appreciate the arts, and especially to believe in and to build myself. I remember most the this sparkle in her eyes that she'd get whenever she was excited about something. Sometimes it would be over something simple like going out to lunch at our favorite Italian spot, Canaletto. Other times it would be over some...

I go back in time with Carol for at least 40 years. Much of our friendship involved LBO but it became far deeper than that. I remember the early years with Michael Milenski when she helped run LBO using her own credit card. She stayed with us overnight after the LB house was sold and she did not want to drive back to Orange County alone at night.When we last spoke a few months ago she was full of " plans for the future ." She was such a giving and generous lady in so many ways...

Howard Rose Garden

Carol was an avid philanthropist and an enthusiastic supporter of the Banning Museum where I first met her many years ago. She had many interests, but we shared a love of gardening - especially rose gardens. Something she learned from her father and enjoyed through the years. Carol and her sister Allie established the Howard Rose Garden at the museum in Wilmington in honor of their father, Paul J. Howard a pioneer nurseryman and landscape designer in Los Angeles. Dinner with Carol always provided a wonderful opportunity to talk about the early days of Los Angeles, her work with the Hollywood Bowl, Dorothy Chandler and so many friends of hers and my parents from a "by gone" era :)
