Dear Tom,
I recently read about Cleo in the Elon Magazine. I wanted you to know that I am so sorry about her passing. She was such a sweet, beautiful person. She always made wherever she was a brighter and beautiful place.
Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Nelda Shaw Simpson Lenoir, N.C.

Tom, I am at a loss for words to express my shock and sadness, when I heard of Cleo's passing. She was such a beautiful person, inside and out. Cleo always had a smile on her face. I will always remember her from Elon and our times together.

Tommy,

Mae Crutghfield Edwards just informed me of Cleo's passing. I was shocked to learn this sad news. The Class of 66 has lost a great classmate. My condolences to you and your family. May God Bless,

Al Milton

My dear brother Tommy, nephews Te and Will, and my niece Lisa: I was as shocked as the rest of the family to get the phone call about Cleo's death. She had been like a sister to me since I first met her in high school at Northside. She was always part of the Short clan on our many trips to Fort Wayne, Indiana, our summer vacations at Claytor Lake, and of course catching live bait for Poppy. Later, it was the family week at Ocean Isle beach, NC, and more recently our trips to Orange Lake,...

I was deeply saddened by the news of Cleo's death. I'll alway remember the fun times we had in band at Northside High School and am so grateful I was able to see her at our last class reunion. My thoughts and prayers go out to Tommy and the rest of her family. A truly beautiful soul. My deepest condolences.

Tom Jr. - There is no greater loss than that of a Mom. My deepest sympathy.

I am sure I speak for the entire Northside High School class of 1966 family when I say how shocked and saddened I was to hear the sad news about Cleo. We all have so many happy memories of you two over the years. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Short, Will, Lisa, Tee and family,

My deepest sympathy to every one of you. The news truly broke my heart this morning. If there is anything I can do, I will be there.

Mrs. Short was simply an amazing woman. Her positivity and outlook was like a shining light in the years I ran with Will and Lisa both. She just had a way about her, graceful and soothing, but tough. She was a great influence and true role model in my life- she is and will be sincerely missed.

Mr. Short and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Cleo's beautiful smile was contagious! Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your children and your entire family.
