Danola Norrix-Ode

Dani Ode (Danola Norrix-Ode), 94, born on January 24, 1926, in Kentucky, passed away October 17, 2020. She resided in West Hills, CA at the time of her passing. In childhood, her family called her, "Viola". Her parents were Ruby and Dora Hall, with 14 children in the family. From Kentucky, she ventured to Michigan, where she met her soulmate Dan Norrix. They married and soon fulfilled their dream of moving to Hollywood California, raising two daughters, Dora Lee and Donna Lynn. They eventually settled in and made The San Fernando Valley their home, as Bing Crosby sang about. We lost Dan in 1970, passing away at Dodger Stadium, their favorite place. They would both, no doubt, be smiling and cheering proudly for their recent World Series Champions.


Dani worked for The May Co, waitressing in the trendy Terrace Tea Room for 26 years, greeting many celebrities over the years and making sure her grandchildren attended special events in the Tea Room, such as Santa and Easter Bunny Luncheons. Often still adding activities like building Gingerbread houses with Grandkids after a full work day. She was very active in her Church and she made sure all of us learned of God's love. She loved singing in the choir and participating in social events. Her family at West Valley Christian Church were very special to her.


Dani was very adventurous and loved to travel, learning about new places and cultures. She and Dan loved exploring the States and especially California. Her ancestry lead her to roots in Great Britain and Scotland. She traveled there, in addition to Jerusalem and Alaska. She enjoyed line dancing for many years and loved playing cards and dominoes with friends. Live theater was a passion with Dani and she encouraged all of her family to to embrace the arts, with a special love for Broadway shows.


Dani is survived by her sisters, Betty Kramer and Geneva Meinke. Daughters Dora Lee Jones and Donna Magnuson. Grandchildren Ronald Murray, David Murray, Kelly Jones-Clarke, Lori Holmes, Jamie Kelsch, Tyler Magnuson, Jeremy Jones, Marissa Hilder and her Texas Granddaughters, Jacqui, Jill and Veronica. She loved them all so much and cherished all 13 Great Grandchildren to follow.


Funeral Services for Dani will be at 2:30pm on Thursday, November 5th at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, officiated by Pastor Glenn Kirby. It will be outdoors near The Church of the Hills, followed by a brief graveside service where she will rest along side her beloved Dan. There are distancing and mask requirements in place.

A heartfelt thank you to all who loved and appreciated our Beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and Dear Friend. She was feisty, loving, funny and smart. We will miss her for all the days of our lives, but treasure the love and traditions she gave to our family. We'll make biscuits and gravy often and honor her for always.
