David William George

March 14, 1951 — July 1, 2018

David William George, 67, was born on March 14,1951, in Santa Monica, California, passed away July 1, 2018. He resided in Glendale, California at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the directions of Forest Lawn, Glendale, California.

Growing up, Dave was an active member of the Boy Scouts, where he rose all the way up the ranks and became a youth leader. In Junior High and High School, he took up the drums and played actively in high school marching band, orchestra, jazz band and in his own rock 'n' roll band.

Dave was a high school graduate and, later in life, went back to school as a part time college student where he made the Dean's list for his performance in Engineering classes. He was then offered a scholarship for Cal. State L.A., but refused it, as he was putting so much of his time and energy into his business
ventures.

Dave worked as the Head Purchasing Agent for Malibu Grand Prix Raceway when they had entertainment centers all across the nation. He then went into the construction business with an old friend who was a General Contractor. After a year or two, Dave got his own Contractors License and went into business with his Dad, Mel, specializing in pharmacies and gift shops. Later he began his own business, Delta Pharmacy Fixtures and Design. He continued working in the pharmacy installation business and also doing general construction jobs and remodels of all types. He truly was a master carpenter, and exceptionally skilled in finish work. In 2013, he started a new job as Facilities Supervisor for the Gooden Center Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation/Mental Health Organization where he continued to work until his passing. Dave considered everyone at the Gooden Center to be like a second family to him. His honesty and strong work ethic earned him the reputation of being someone who could be trusted and relied upon.

Dave made a personal decision to receive Jesus in his early 30s. Shortly after that, he became an active member of The Church On The Way, Van Nuys, CA. He was involved in a ministry called Men In Action which was a service group created to assist people for free who needed help with their homes and properties. Later he joined the World Team on missions trips to France and Costa Rica. He headed a volunteer construction crew to Costa Rica to lay the brick foundation for a church that desperately needed to get off the ground, and his team succeeded. He became a member of a men's prayer group for over 15 years and made lifelong friends and prayer support buddies. He and his wife Judy always prayed together and read out loud one or two Bible verses before he went off to work every morning.

Dave was a very tall man in stature and the size of his heart was even bigger. He was known to be an honest, compassionate, tenderhearted person, and he did his best to treat everyone with equal respect. He had a genuine love for and interest in people and made a point of learning, and remembering each person's name and their likes and dislikes, their background and their family members, and he remembered those details. He was a strong leader, and at the same time very modest and self-effacing.

Dave was everyone's go-to guy, and he was always very happy and glad to be that. Concerning his family and all of those close to him he was "dedicated and committed" to be there for us, in whatever way he possibly could...and he was. He was still the central person of his family even after his children were grown, and whether it was to get some help, or advice, or just to have a fun time together, his family always looked to him. He had a wonderful, punny, zany sense of humor that blessed us all.

We will miss him more than any words can express. We rejoice in the fact that we know where he is and who he is with, and that we will be with him again some day.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith, son Matthew (wife Jennifer), granddaughter Chantal, daughter Sandra, Mother Faye, Sister Carolyn Montero (husband David), and brother-in-law Jeff Butzlaff (wife Mary). Dave and Judy also have a baby son in heaven, Donald, who did not survive through pregnancy.

Dave struggled with pronated ankles as a child, which made finding shoes very difficult. Because of that experience, he decided to support a wonderful charity group for children called "Shoes That Fit", that provides nice, attractive, well-fitting shoes for needy children without cost. If you would like to make a donation in Dave's honor, their website is www.shoesthatfit.org.
