Ernest Ralph Seth

December 17, 1927 — March 27, 2022

Ernest Ralph Seth, 94, born on December 17, 1927, in Glendale, California, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2022. Ernie was born and raised in Glendale and in his later years he enjoyed driving around his old Adam's Square neighborhood showing us the houses that his grandfather built there. He grew up spending a lot of happy times in Big Bear where his parents had built a log cabin. He attended Glendale High School and joined the Army Air Force. He married Sally (nee Shaffner). They had three children. The marriage dissolved after 30 years. A few years later, Ernie met his second wife, Anne (nee Guyot Jacot). They were married for 36 years until Anne's passing after a long bout with Alzheimer's. Ernie's dedication to her during her illness was remarkable.

Ernie excelled at mechanics and could fabricate or repair just about anything. He could usually be found in his garage working on various projects for family or friends. Ernie had a successful career and would eventually retire from USPS after 32 years in the position of Supervisor for the Vehicle Maintenance Department for greater Los Angeles. Ernie loved camping in his vintage GMC motorhome with family and friends – he was active and even enjoyed waterskiing into his '80's! He also enjoyed travelling the world. Together with good friends, he and Anne participated on a balloon chasing ground team across the Australian continent and had many other unique adventures such as hiking in the Swiss Alps and attending the spectacular Royal Military Edinburgh Tatoo. He developed an interest in genealogy and traced the Seth family line back to 1600's Scotland and he learned that some maternal ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War. He was active in the Glendale Elks Club and made many lasting friendships there. He was the proud owner of vintage cars and enjoyed participating in local car shows.

Anyone who knew Ernie knew that he was a great father, a devoted husband, and a true friend. There are not enough words to do him justice. Ernie had three children and is survived by two, Ralph (wife Barbara) and Julie (husband Hervé). His eldest daughter, Dian, predeceased him. He had 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Ernie is also survived by Anne's children and their families. He will be missed by so many who loved him.

A service will be held in the Wee Kirk of the Heather, Forest Lawn Glendale, on Tuesday, April 26th at 2:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service complete with bagpiper. A casual reception will be held at the Glendale Elks Lodge, 120 E Colorado St, Glendale, CA 91205, with a hosted bar and appetizers. Stop by to share your Ernie Stories!
