Henry C. Lanan, 85, of Kingston, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016, at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago.He was born May 21, 1931, in Kingston, the son of Guy Lanan and Sara Eckhart. Henry married Janet Peterson on June 18, 1955 at the First Lutheran Church in Kirkland.Henry graduated from the Kirkland High School, Class of 1949. After high school Henry attended Beloit College for one and half years before enlisting in the Air Force for four years during the Korean War. After serving his country, Henry attended the University of Illinois and graduated the Class of 1956.He farmed for many years on Five Points Road in Kingston. He grew corn, soybeans, and alfalfa hay; along with raising cattle and hogs.Henry was a member of the Mayfield Congregational Church and was active on many boards and committees. He served many years on the Genoa-Kingston School Board, a director on the Farm Bureau Board, a member of the Shriners, Masons and Kingston Community Club. He also coached little league and pony league baseball.He was an avid Chicago sports fan. He enjoyed going to Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls games. Henry also enjoyed golfing and bowling where he belonged to a number of leagues. Henry enjoyed family time, in particular spending time with his grandchildren.Henry is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Steven Lanan of Portland, OR, Michael (Louise) Lanan of Kingston, Karen Swanson of Sycamore, Thomas (Kathy) Lanan of Sycamore, Daniel (Maria) Lanan of North Aurora; six grandchildren, Ben, Michelle, Crystal, Megan, Miranda, and Christian; great grandson, Scott; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Sara Lanan; brother, Joe Lanan; and sister, Martha Hoffman.A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Mayfield Congregational Church, 28405 Church Road, Sycamore, with the Rev. Dr. Martha Brunell officiating.
