Lester's Obituary

Lester W. Scott departed this life on May 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born October 14, 1928, in McLemoresville, TN to Charlie and Onie Johnson Scott. He spent his childhood growing up in Trezevant. He married Jessie Clarke on May 6, 1951, the couple recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They resided at the same residence in Cedar Grove since 1955 and Lester took great pride in maintaining their home and gardens. Lester served 35 plus years in the United States National Guard and was a Korean War veteran. He also worked for the Milan Arsenal. He retired from the Lavinia National Guard Training Center after many years of service. He served as a board member of the West Carroll Special School District for many years. He was instrumental in restoring Westview school building into a community center.He is survived by his wife Jessie, two sons, Gary Clarke Scott and Greg Oakley Scott of Cedar Grove; two grandsons, Brian Andrew Scott of Cedar Grove and Michael Scott of McLemoresville. A sister Mary Newsome and a brother, Bobby J. Scott, both of Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, four brothers and one infant grandson, Cody Clarke Scott.He was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.Services will be held at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 2:00 PM. Rev. Joe Bishop and Rev. John Holcomb will officiate. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Scott Clarke, John Black, Daniel Porter, David Dees, Keith Newsome, Tony Bailey. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery following the services.
