With heavy hearts and enduring love, we announce that Raul Castillo passed away peacefully in his home in Burbank, California on May 5, 2022 after a hard-fought battle against cancer.
·
He is remembered by his wife, Marivic Reyes-Castillo; his stepchildren Joanna Rivera and Kevin John Rivera; his parents Roberto Castillo and Milagros Castillo (née Cubarrubia); his sisters Monina Castillo-O'Hare and Anna Castillo-Slade; his nephew Jordan Tyler Slade; and his corgis Duke and Earl.

Raul was born on February 14, 1968 in Manila, Philippines. His family immigrated to Echo Park, California in 1974, later settling in Arleta, California. After graduating from St. Genevieve High School, he obtained an associate degree in economics at Los Angeles Valley College. He went on to complete both his bachelor's degree in business administration and his master's degree in public administration at California State University Dominguez Hills. Raul found his niche in professional fundraising as he worked with multiple arts and education organizations, and he was eventually entrusted with the role of Executive Director of the Los Angeles Valley College Foundation in 2001, where he continued to serve until the time of his passing. Throughout his career, Raul's leadership was commended by many. What made him most proud was the difference he made in the lives of students.
·
Raul married the love of his life, Marivic, in 2001, and they spent the next 21 years as each other's best friends and biggest cheerleaders. Raul loved his daughter and son dearly, celebrating every accomplishment and supporting them in every pursuit. He found joy in driving up the coast in his Corvette, playing golf among friends, and cheering on the Lakers, Dodgers, and Rams. Raul made an impression on everyone he met as he led his life with kindness, generosity, and a knack for building genuine connection. He is and will be deeply missed.
·
A memorial service will be held at the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills on June 2, 2022 at 5pm. A private Celebration of Life will be held separately for close friends and family.
