Ronald S. Irwin

Ronald Scott Irwin, age 78 passed away peacefully on November 28, 2019 in Rancho Mirage, CA with his loving wife at his side. Ron was born in Denver, CO on October 18, 1941 but moved to Southern California as a young child. Ron grew up in South Gate and went to college in Compton, CA. After college he began his career with the Downey Fire Department in 1963.

He proudly served his community of Downey for 37 years retiring as Fire Chief for the city. Over the years he was devoted to the community in many charitable ways. After retirement, Ron enjoyed countless hours on the golf course with friends, traveling the world with his best friend and wife and spending time with his 3 children and grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife, Margaret Irwin; 3 children; Sean Irwin (Darcy) of Puyallup, WA, Erin Harms of Sparks, NV and Amber Jamieson (Chris) of Haslet, TX; and 7 grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 2p.m. at Forest Lawn, 69885 E. Ramon Rd. Cathedral City, CA 92234. Celebration of life to follow the service at 4p.m. at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas, 41000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Rocksteadyboxing.org. Donations can be made online.
