thoughts and prayers member class of 1958Aili

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Dear Ray and all family members: Kathryn had offered to bring me tomorrow to convey my condolences personally and to let you know that I understand your pain and grief. My back prevented me from doing this. My thoughts and prayers will be with you tomorrow and in the future days. Sincerely and with love

Betsy and family -
My deepest sympathy to all. Peace and love to you. xoxo

To the family, I am sorry to hear the news about your loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this challenging time. Isaiah 61:1,2 *

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your loved one. Hopefully reflecting on all the good times you've shared together will help ease the pain that you feel. May "the God of all comfort" strengthen you at this time of sadness, and may His promise for the future bring you peace. Hosea 13:14.

Offering my sincere condolences to the Family, may you find comfort from the encouraging words found at 1 Thessalonians 4:14

Sue was a lovely lady. She was so caring with the students at Reeds Ferry. My son loved her.
RIP Sue and condolences to the family.

Betsy and family,
So very sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathy to all of you.

Susan's Obituary

Sue Spooner passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at her home in Merrimack, New Hampshire, surrounded by her loving family and after having struggled with Alzheimer's disease for over eleven years.  This exceptional woman was born Susan Elizabeth Bates in Cape Elizabeth, Maine on Dec 27, 1939, and grew up in Bath, Maine.  Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Raymond, of 55 years and her children:  Bethany Ciocci, of Cumming, GA, her husband Chris and son Dain, and Timothy Spooner, of Hampton, NH, his wife Patti and daughters Abigail and Emma.   Susan is also survived by her sister, Jean Edwards, of Brunswick, Maine.

Sue was a wonderful, beautiful, and deeply caring daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, with a radiant smile and quick humor.  Sue graduated from Morse High School in Bath ME in 1958, and from Bates College with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1962.  In the early 1980’s, Sue earned her Certificate of Education at Rivier College.  She was devoted to her family and active in her community, volunteering with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, working at Reeds Ferry School in Merrimack NH as a teacher of students with special needs, and volunteering for Hospice. Sue was a natural artist – during her life she practiced percussion, knitting, quilting, clothes making, home decorating, even upholstery.  Ceramics painting was a gift and a passion she held that was particularly extraordinary. Sue’s life journey with Ray led them to make homes in several places in the eastern US, including North Chicago IL, Douglas MA, Ledyard CT, Norfolk VA, Linglestown PA, Orono ME, and Rutledge PA, and finally Merrimack NH.  However, New England – particularly Down East, coastal Maine - was always her true home and she visited Pemaquid every summer.

Susan was a strong, courageous woman who fought and defeated breast cancer prior to being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2005, and never lost her spark or sharp wit until the very end of that long battle. The family is deeply appreciative of the support of friends, family and her visiting caregivers over the past several years. Sue’s engaging personality always shined through, and won the love of three caregivers:  Nadine Larsen, Dawn Connelly, and Diana DeFeo, who supported both Ray and Sue in keeping their house a home for many years.

Visiting hours will be 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 2 at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH, followed immediately by a memorial service at the same location.

Please make donations in lieu of flowers in Sue’s memory to Home Health & Hospice Care , 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054 or online at www.hhhc.org  and/or to The Alzheimer’s Association, 166 S River Rd #210, Bedford, NH 03110 or online at alz.org/donate
