Memories abound: A midnight walk arm in arm, not a word spoken.

To Jo: Thanks for many great memories

I will miss that gentle voice at the other end of the phone a couple times a year and the otherwise electrifying conversations we had as a result.

What I know of tea, Japanese art, ethics, ceramics and a good measure of myself - I owe to him.

May your studies continue on another plane and may your journey be blessed.

I will miss you, teacher, but never forget.


We remember many great dinners with Tom and Josie at the Nebraska Club. We always knew it would be a wonderful evening when we saw that Tom and Josie were a part of the event. Great memories.

I was privileged to be Tom Sheffield's student. He was kind, generous and inspiring—oh, and brilliant.

Thanks Tom. I have used everything you gave me as well as I could and passed on as much as I could - although it was nothing compared to what you gave. Catch you on the flip side. - RT

Tom passed away peacefully at his home with his family beside him on November 30, 2013. Born April 7, 1925 in Seattle to Frederick D.
