Not sure what to say?

Bill certainly stood out among our law class. When he spoke up it was smooth, reasonable and informed, a totally appropriate response to the issue at hand. His answers always imparted an instant positive impression; it was like hearing from an oracle! Over the years it has been interesting to follow his career at a distance and realize he had a similar effect on colleagues, clients, juries, judges and many others. Somehow, he managed to do all this with grace and humility. Bill was a...

We were honored to be at the funeral today. We are deeply sorry we did not have more contact in recent years. We do hope have contact with you in the future. In the meantime we will keep you in our thoughts and our prayers. Tonight in our Friday night services we mentioned Bill's name in the memorial prayer. We will also pray for healing for you and the family. Arlene

Bill and I joined the law firm at the same time. It was clear from the earliest days he was going to be a superstar lawyer. Though I have not seen him in more than 30 years now, I cannot think about Bill without smiling. No matter how busy he was or how much pressure he was under, he was positive and upbeat. HIs spirit will be a gift to all of us forever.

I wish I could hug you and be there to comfort you. “E Ola ka Mana” (The Spirit Lives On). I am holding you and Bill in my heart forever. ♥

Earth felt much better to me with Bill on it

Dear Tallie and all, I can only repeat what everyone else has said. He was a truly great guy. He was a wonderful co-author of the Rutter Practice Guide and a great friend. He was always so vital an alive. I cant believe he is gone. I cant believe he will not be there when the co-authors get together. I will always remember his friendship.

I did not know Bill as well as many of you. We did not spend a significant amount of time together but he did have a significant impact on my life, which tells you something about him.
When I first came to the firm I would eat in the attorney dining room as a way of meeting other attorneys. Bill was often there and we would sit together and chat. As a senior lawyer he often graced me with bits of wisdom. Two in particular stand out in my mind. first he cautioned me that I should always...

First & Last Impressions

Late August 1977: Walking into the Introduction to Law School reception I noticed a man in an all too familiar “suit” and dress black shoes. The caduceus on the lapels told me we had something very tangible in common.
He stood comfortably among four people, well engaged in conversation. The luxury of not being noticed allowed me to watch the group engrossed in dialog their...
