MARTIN RANFT Obituary
MARTIN A. "MARTY", a longtime educator, passed away peacefully at his home on December 2, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-nine years, Susan Cherner, and his eight adored children: Matthew Cherner-Ranft, Meghan Cherner-Ranft, Christopher Ranft, Frances Smith, Carolyn Echols, Katherine Ranft, Stephen Ranft and Alan Ranft. He is also survived by his much loved seven grandsons. Marty was a professor of English for over 40 years at Harcum College and taught, previously, at Overbrook High School. Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Friday, 11 am precisely at JOSEPH LEVINE AND SONS MEMORIAL CHAPELS (WEST), 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall PA. Int. Mt. Sharon Cemetery. The family will return to the late residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Penn-Wissahickon Hospice or Congregation Ohev Shalom of Wallingford.

Martin Ranft had a great impact upon my growth both as a student at Overbrook HIgh School and as an individual. He opened my mind up to great works of literature and was a deeply adored friend.
I am glad to know he was surrounded by so much love.

Mr. Ranft was my High School English teacher for both my junior and senior years at Overbrook High. He was an exceptional educator who always infused his classes with his humor and intellect. I remember him as one of the finest teachers I ever had, and I am sad to hear of his passing. A great man!
