Carl Trammell Obituary

Carl Tyler Trammell
Mr. Trammell, 81, died peacefully at home on Monday, October 20, 2003. He was born in Traveler's Rest, SC on April 8, 1922 and was the son of the late Carl H. and Ella Rose Benson Trammell.
A World War II Navy veteran, Carl served as a radioman onboard the cruiser U.S.S. Brooklyn, and survived three invasions in the Mediterranean theater. Honorably discharged in September 1945, he was a proud member of the U.S.S. Brooklyn Association. After his military service, he made a career in retail and merchandising, and retired from Family Dollar Stores in 1987 where he had been Advertising Director.
Carl Trammell was a man of high principles and moral integrity, having a close relationship with his Lord, and a deep and unconditional love of family and friends. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Matthews, The Agape Sunday School Class and the Shut-In Ministry. Throughout his adult life, Carl was an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee; son, Richard D. Trammell and his wife, Carolyn, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughters, Nan Trammell Jones and her husband, Reverend David Jones, of Jefferson, NC, Linda Spruill Howard and her husband, John, Barbara Leslie Mangum and her husband, Greg, all of Charlotte; grandchildren, Richard 'Bo' Trammell, Jr. and his wife, Courtney, of Bat Cave, NC, Kristin Trammell Cummings and husband, Bobby, of Sullivan's Island, SC, Michael Payne, Jesse and Hannah Howard, of Charlotte, David, Matthew, and Nancy Jones of Jefferson, NC, Laura and Cathy Eaddy of Wando, SC; great-grandson, Tanner Burke Cummings of Sullivan's Island, SC; brothers Frank Trammell and his wife, Mary, and Ed Trammell and his wife, Virginia, of Spartanburg, SC; and sister Frances Calvo and her husband, Randy, of Anderson, SC. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Eaddy of Charleston, SC.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 23, 2003 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Matthews, NC, with Reverend John Butler and Reverend Brad Salee officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 22, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

My grandfather "paw paw" meant more to me that anyone will ever know. I as well as the entire family loved him more than life itself. I miss him soo much and can't wait to work in heaven's gardens with him! I love you paw paw!!!! God Bless!!!
