When I was picked to be the weekend intern at WDIV back in 1992, I didn;t know what to expect. Turns out, it was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned more that one summer from working with Fred than the four years I spent in college. I consider myself lucky that I was then able to work with him on a regular basis at WDIV, especially on Sports Final Edition. The passion he had for that show was second to none, and that passion has been with me ever since. I consider myself lucky to not only work with him on a professional basis, but also to be able to call him a friend and a mentor. Beth, my prayers are with you, as well as the kids. Know that he is still with you, and his love for you will continue. Craig Wilking

My condolences to you, Beth, and the entire McLeod family. I was a fan of Fred's long before I had the pleasure of meeting him personally. I admired his professionalism on the air and his kind, gracious manner one-on-one. I'm very sorry for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers to the McLeod family. Mr. McLoed made watching the Cavs. so entertaining. I watched him for so many season, it's going to be hard watching without him there.
It's almost like you knew him personally, just a radiant spirt emanated from him.
May you find comfort, in knowing he's in his room with the Lord.
God Bless

To Beth and the entire McLeod family. Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of Fred. Like so many others in the sports broadcasting field, Fred was instrumental in helping me start my career in the business while he was at WJBK in Detroit. He gave aspiring sportscasters such as myself the opportunity, the guidance and the access to go and be what we wanted/dreamed of doing. Ultimately, I ended up going the producing route, developing contacts when I worked for Fred, that helped me land my career breakthrough job with CBS Newspath in New York, as a national sports producer. I would not have landed that job without the experience I gained working for Fred when he was sports director at WJBK. In addition to his professionalism, Fred was a nice man. He loved what he did for a living, however, I don't think he took himself that seriously. In later years, I did reconnect with him periodically on Facebook. His call of the Cavs clinching victory in the NBA Finals will live on for the ages and is emblematic of Fred's sports broadcasting legacy---prepared, passionate, in the moment and a fan at heart. I so enjoyed hearing and seeing him again on the Lions pre-season telecasts this season. In summary, please know you are being thought of during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Kevin Byrnes

Dear Beth and family,

Thank you for sharing Fred with us all of these years. A friend of mine and fellow Cavs fan broke the news to me and I kept hoping it was just a bad dream. I just couldn't believe the news and didn't want to accept it. The games will never be the same and Fred will always be missed. His voice helped to provide the soundtrack for the Cavs and there will never be a better duo than him and AC. Seeing the Cavs win the title in 2016 and hearing Fred break down the way he did made me cry and that was the ultimate sports high. I'm so glad the team was able to win one for Fred. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I never had the pleasure of meeting Fred but I chose friend as an option on here because Fred was a friend to all of us in this Cleveland family. It was a pleasure and thrill to hear his voice in my living room every night and I couldn't wait to just watch the pregame so I could listen to Fred. How many people on television can you really say that about? Fred was unique and one of a kind.

Dearest Beth and Family,

I feel heartbroken.
I will always remember Fred's sincere smile, strong voice, and enthusiasm reflecting his caring, upbeat nature. He was a lovely, talented person, and a professional co-worker - both on air and off.
At this difficult time of great sadness may you rely on the promises of Christ.
I send you all my love,
Ruth Spencer Aaron
