Doerger, Berard Fr. OFM
Fr. Berard Doerger, OFM, a member of the Franciscan Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe, died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Casa de Rosa Care Center. Fr. Berard was born in St. Bernard, Ohio, January 27, 1935 and entered the Franciscan novitiate in Cincinnati in August 1952. He made his solemn (final) profession of vows August 16, 1956 and was ordained June 13, 1961 at St. Leonard College, Dayton, Ohio. Fr. Berard served as an instructor at St. Francis Seminary, Mt. Healthy, OH and Bishop Luers High School, Ft. Wayne, IN. He also served in parishes in Buras, LA, Roswell, Cuba, NM, Acoma, Laguna, and Jemez Pueblos, and in Olpe, KS. He had a special love and devotion to the Navajo people and their culture and served at Franciscan missions in Houck and Lukachukai, AZ.
In addition to his Franciscan confreres, Fr. Berard is survived by his sisters, Patricia M. Doerger and Rita Gullette; brothers, Jerry and Richard Doerger, all of Cincinnati, OH.
Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at San Juan Diego Friary Chapel, 1350 Lakeview Rd. SW until the time of the funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Clement Parish, Cincinnati, OH in February. Interment will be in the Franciscan plot at St. Mary Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH.
