Herrera, Bernie
Bernie Herrera, originally from Duranes, went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2016, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer for the past 3 years.
Bernie was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bernardo and Prescilla Herrera.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella, his son, Nathan, his daughter, Kelly, his step-sons, Robert and Carlos Chavez and many beloved cousins and friends. Bernie retired from the NM Correctional Facility in Los Lunas. He loved to play golf and go fishing with his friends. He was also a proud supporter of the UNM Lobos. We will forever miss Bernie's Bear Hugs and remember him as our Gentle Giant.
The family would like to thank the NM Cancer Center Foundation for their loving care and support during this trying time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NM Cancer Center Foundation.
A Rosary will be recited Friday, September 16, 2016 at San Felipe Catholic church in Old Town with Mass to be celebrated immediately following at 9:30am. Interment will take place at a later date.
