McConnell, Francis (Mac) E.
Francis (Mac) E. McConnell passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the age of 84.
Francis was born on March 9, 1932 in Searcy, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Greeta, his brother Harold, and his sister Lucille.
Francis is survived by his son Bill; daughters Margaret and Julie; daughter-in-law Sherri; son-in-law Tony; granddaughters Ashley and Monica; grandson-in-law Brian; and great-granddaughter Brylee.
Francis grew up in Kensett, Arkansas and married Greeta Shuwmaker in 1953, also from Arkansas. The couple moved around some while Francis served in the US Air Force and ended up settling in Albuquerque, NM where they adopted twins Bill and Margaret when they were five days old. Greeta passed away at a young age and Francis continued to live in Albuquerque for 54 years. Francis married again to Eleanor and they have a daughter Julie.
Francis was an active member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church for most of his time in Albuquerque. He and Greeta were among the first dozen or so people that started Heights in the early 1950's where they met in their homes until they could purchase a church sanctuary.
Francis was very personable and worked in jobs where he could be around people. After he left the US Air Force, Francis worked at Conoco Gas and Oil Co. Eventually, he became a candy salesman with Ar-Mex Sales and for many years travelled the state quite a bit. When he retired from Ar-Mex, he worked at Albertson's as a cashier and at Dip 'n Dots serving ice cream in the mall. He will be remembered by his coworkers and customers as a fun, kind person.
Francis was a big Dallas Cowboys fan and a big Lobos fan. He also stayed loyal to the Arkansas Razorbacks.
He really enjoyed going out to dinner and especially liked Scarpas where he became best friends with a waitress named Melinda.
Francis had a stroke in 2014 and moved to Belen Meadows nursing facility where he resided until his passing. The family would like to thank their nursing staff and others that took good care of him his last two years on this earth.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy Rd. NE and a reception will follow. Throughout his life Francis acquired many friends and loved ones and we hope you all will join us to celebrate his time with us.

My prayers go to his Family he adored tremendous ly. He will be missed. I worked with Mac for 9 years at Albertsons on Eubank. Moved to Los Lunas NM and would sometimes visit the store on Eubank and would not leave until I said hello to Mac.
Mac loved his job. He was always loved by the customers and employees.
I am still working for Albertsons in Los Lunas and hope I can work as long as Mac did.
I have learned from Mac to treat customers like Family and always have a smile.
RIP Mac
Will never forget you

In my entire life, I've only known two people who always had a genuine twinkle in their eye--Francis was one of them. I think that speaks volumes about how he approached life: a wink and a smile for everyone whose path he crossed. Good journey, Francis. I'm glad I knew you.
