I'm so sorry to have missed this sad news last year. Mrs. McCanna was my fourth grade teacher at Griegos Elementary many, many years ago. It was in her classroom that I learned of the assassination of President John Kennedy. I remember returning to class after going home for lunch and she was there, with the TV on and tears in her eyes. I will never forget that day. She has remained my favorite teacher ever, and I think fondly of her so very often. She inspired my lifelong love of learning. I wish I had stayed in contact with her. We moved to Los Lunas the summer after that year I spent in her class. I missed spending time with her during times when class was not in session, and she was still at school working on special projects and bulletin board. She loved her calling to teach and it showed in her devotion to each and every student lucky enough to be placed in her class. She was indeed a very special lady. God bless her and her family.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of my favorite teacher from Alameda Elementary. She was a wonderful lady! Thirteen years ago she attended my wedding and gave me a plate she handmade. I have it on my kitchen counter and I will treasure it forever. I offer my sincere condolences to her family. She will truly be missed.

God Bless,
Jessica Ortiz-Atencio

What a special lady and amazing teacher! She made my son at Alameda feel like he was her favorite and I think that all her students felt that way. My condolences to all the family.
