Gary, James Henderson
James Henderson Gary, 90, Lt. Col. Civil Air Patrol went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 10, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. Jim was a man of great faith, strength, character and depth of caring for his wife, Barbara, family, friends and those lost, in life or the wilds of NM. Jim was born July 26, 1925 in Rockdale, TX to Lyman Eugene and Margie Vasti Gary. Jim enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1943. After WW II, he returned to Texas and married Mildred Joyce Nichols in 1946. Jim returned to active duty during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Jim worked for the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller from 1958 til 1983, retiring as the Supervisory ATCS for the Albuquerque ARTCC, the same year Joyce passed away. In 1984, Jim married Barbara, sharing his love for the remainder of his life. Jim was appointed to the NM State Search and Rescue Review Board, developing the board's review standards, and serving in many roles for over 35 years. Jim also served in many roles for over 30 years in the NM Wing of the CAP, rising to the rank of Lt. Col. Jim was ordained as a Deacon at Northdale Baptist Church in 1995, and continued his service at Del Norte Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sister, Sarah Lincoln and husband, Elmore of Thorndale, TX; his children, Joyce Hamblet, Steven Gary and wife, Tracy, Lester Gary and wife, Denise, all of the Albuquerque area, Kenneth Martin and wife, Staci of Palmer, AK and Laura Campbell and husband, Robert of Irving, TX; as well as 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce; and his sister, Jeanne Dreyer and her husband, Roger of Gonzales, TX.
Friends may visit Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH â€" Lomas. Services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Del Norte Baptist, 5800 Montgomery Blvd. NE. Interment will be Thursday, June 16, 2016, 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
