Col Pyeatt,
Sir, you and Kris were so kind to Annette and I during our time together at Lajes Field; you made that assignment one of my favorites of my entire career. As a young Executive Officer I worked closely with you at that very unique assignment, working with the Portuguese Air Force and hosting thousands of visiting aircrews and DVs. It was fun and hectic... and your patience, insight, and most of all your smile and humor were soooo appreciated by this young Captain. You showed me what a Colonel in the USAF looked like, and I still use your example this many years later of how a senior leader in any organization should lead. Godspeed Sir.

Just found about about Bob's passing. I can still remember, after graduating college was and back on the farm, a phone call I received from Capt Pyeatt asking me if I wanted to fly helicopters. Heck yes, get me off the farm. Years later I had the good fortune to work with Col Pyeatt at KAFB. Want an incredible officer and mentor. We all should be lucky to be able to work with a guy to kept you on-track--a true friend--always with a smile and a joke from Readers Digest. Rest in peace, Col Bob--you are a warrior, patriot, professional, and all around great guy!!!!

I met the Col on a tdy to Mountain home . He and his people really showed us a great time after the training. He was my commander at the 1550 FTS. He was always smiling and a great pilot. He always remembered my two daughters and my wife. May he rest in peace.

My heartfelt condolonces to the Pyeatt family. Bob and I attended elementary thru high school. The summer of 1961 Bob got a job in the US Forest Service about 1 hour west of Redding, CA. He came back several times that summer and regaled me with stories of cutting trees and fighting forest fires. He inspired me to get a job at the same place he did and I worked with Bob the summers of 1962 and 1963. Because of Bob I went on to a Hot Shot Forest Fighting Crew in Montana in 1964 then a Smokejumper in 1965. Bob was always a leader and good friend. You will be missed 'Rooter' (we worked at Pine Root Springs). Rest in Peace my friend.

What a fantastic Officer and mentor!! Bob hired me back in 1996 as the 58th Special Operations Wing Chief of Safety. He was great at counseling and mentoring his young officers. It was truly a pleasure and a privelege to work for him and see what truly great leadership is all about. He got the initial H-60 Program started here at Kirtland and the wing acknowledged his achievements by naming the Wing's Pavilion after his retirement. We are all saddened to hear of his passing and offer our prayers and condolences to his family. He will be fondly remembered here at Kirtland Air Force Base.

I went through high school at John Swett in Crockett Ca. With Bob. I remember Bob as always being just a great guy in school. He was always friendly and willing to help out when asked. He drove by himself from Albuquerque to our 55th class reunion this last year and it was so great having him there. He seemed to have a great time visiting and talking about old times. He will be missed by all. My condolences to the family for your great loss. RIP Bob, and God Bless......

I went to Jr High School thru High School with Bob. In 1961 he got a job with the US Forest Service and worked about 1 hour West of Redding, CA. He came home a couple of times and regaled me with stories of cutting down trees and fighting forest fires. Because of Bob I got the same job at the same place and worked with Bob for 2 years. I saw a completely different side of Bob: rough and ready, a leader and, more importantly, a good friend. I worked with Bob for 2 great years and because of Bob I was able to work on a Hotshot crew in Montana the following year then, eventually, a smokejumper in Montana. We would have great, competitive one on one basketball games and worked out tails off fighting forest fires side by side. Bob was a great friend to our high school class and he will be missed. Rest In Peace my friend.
