Romero, Wilfred
August 4, 1952 -
February 24, 2016
Wilfred Romero, 63, Santa Fe, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. He was born on August 4, 1952 in Santa Fe, NM to Ignacio J. Romero and Eliza Hoehne.
Ignacio and Eliza were among the first families founding St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe and Wilfred often joined his father in service to the parish, as a member of the Holy Name Society.
Wilfred attended local Catholic schools, lettering in track at St. Michael's High School, and served six years active duty in the U.S. Air Force, including two years in England. For many years he worked as part of the civilian workforce at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. He was involved locally with the American Legion and the Unión Protectiva, and was honored by the Vietnam Era Veterans.
Both parents and a youngest brother preceded Wilfred in death. Surviving family include his mother's brother, Blas Hoehne, of Colonias and Pintada; brothers and sisters, Tomas Romero (Luba), Patricia Lopez (Antonio), Roberta Miller (Floyd), all from Santa Fe, and Ric J. Romero, Albuquerque, in addition to numerous other relatives.
For so many years Wilfred's spirit was bound by a physical body that kept failing him. As his speech became limited, he yet often uttered, "Con Dios, todo esta bien." We rejoice that he can now soar free.
Services: Tuesday, March 1, 2:00-4:00pm, viewing at Berardinelli Mortuary, followed by 6:00 pm Rosary and 7:00 pm wake services at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community; Wednesday, March 2, 1:00 pm Mass at Santa Maria de la Paz, followed by interment service at National Cemetery at 3:00pm. So sorry to the family. I'll miss his laughter and his dry humor. I'll remember his respect to his parents and his humbleness. Dan
