Earl Karl Obituary

A Memorial Service will be celebrated Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Earl Karl, 93, who passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at The Carpenter House in Lafayette. Visitation will be observed on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 9:00 am until the time of service, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette. Inurnment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Father Keith LaBove, Pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate. Earl was born June 13, 1924 in New Orleans and was a recent resident of Acadiana. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Navy during WWII. Earl worked as an auto mechanic and race car builder for Knot Farrington of New Orleans. Earl was active in his community and belonged to Livingston Parish COA and served on the board. He was an avid hobbyist, excelling in leaded glass, under the guidance of Ellen & George Caillouet of Absolute Glass. Earl is survived by his daughter, Earlene Ally and her husband, Glenn of Carencro; three grandchildren, Brandon Ally, Melissa Harrington and Danielle Sanchez; six great-grandchildren and several dear nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bernice Prados Karl; his parents, Matthew and Inez Moore Karl and one daughter, Kathleen Sanchez. The family wishes to thank Caitlin of St. Joseph Hospice, for the compassionate care given to Earl and his family, as well as, the wonderful staff at The Carpenter House. They would also like to extend special thanks to Brookdale Assisted Living, for the love shown to Earl as though he was their family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Earl's name to the Miles Perret Cancer Services, 2130 Kaliste Saloom Road, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70508, 337- 984-1920, www.milesperret.org. God has called Mr. Earl home and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a one of a kind man, a true gentleman,a Veteran of WWII and one to volunteer to assist those in need through St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Council on Aging. He will never be forgotten. Mr. Karl is one of my favorite people of all time. I didn't know him and his beloved wife for long, but I treasure the time we shared. He was a true gentleman and the love he expressed for his wife was an inspiration to me. It was a privilege.
