A Funeral Service will be celebrated Friday, February 9, 2018, at 1:00 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Emery Paul Guidry, Jr., 79, who passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at his residence in Lafayette. Visitation will be observed on Friday, February 9, 2018, from 9:00 am until the time of service, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette. A rosary will be recited Friday, February 9, 2018, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette. Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Father Gilbert Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate. Paul was born the only child of Emery and Freda Guidry on February 24, 1938, in Lafayette and was a lifetime resident of Acadiana. He graduated from USL in Petroleum Engineering in 1961, a field of study that morphed into his working future. Paul retired from the oilfield approximately ten years ago. He was an avid golfer the majority of his life and had been a member at Acadian Hills, Oakbourne and Le Triomphe Country Clubs. He was a member of The Petroleum Club for the majority of his career, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends. He cherished his "Tuesday nights" at La Fondas where members of his family regularly joined him. Paul was a parishioner of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette. Paul, who was graced with exceptional academic and athletic abilities, was a two-time state champion boxer while at Cathedral High School and a half-back on the USL football team. He was tough, but a loving and honest man who also provided well for his family and worried incessantly about them. Paul also truly enjoyed his longtime buddies from the Cathedral High boxing team; he was grateful they stayed in touch and remained close throughout the years. Paul placed tremendous value on excellence in whatever field a person pursued, education, honesty and regular hard work. He adored his family and had a very special place in his heart for each and every one of his seven grandchildren. Paul will be missed very much. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Janelle Savoie-Guidry of Lafayette; three sons, Gary Paul Guidry of Lafayette, Michael Guidry and his wife, Jana of Kansas City, MO and Randy Guidry of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Derek, André, Kelci, Luke, Cameron, Matthew and Brooke Guidry. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Emery Paul, Sr. and Freda Clair Hubley-Guidry. Pallbearers will be Randy, Mike, Cameron, André and Luke Guidry and Jimmy Dugas. The family wishes to thank Dr. Brierre and Hospice of Acadiana for the compassionate care given to Paul and his family. The family also wishes to extend a special thanks to Paul's friends for their friendships over the years, all of which enriched his life. Mrs. Guidry - we wish to extend our sincerest sympathy to you and your family. I had the pleasure of visiting with Mr. Paul every year at tax time when he would bring in your information to our CPA firm. He was always pleasant and easy to work with and I will miss seeing him.
