Patrick Tedford

Alamogordo - Patrick Allen Tedford 65, or Chief as he was known by many, passed away on July 7, 2020 in El Paso, Texas, was born on December 24, 1954 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to John A. Tedford and Wanda (Burnes) Tedford. Pat lived in various places in New Mexico growing up. It was in Albuquerque, NM where he met his wife Javonna Taylor. They were married July 1, 1976 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Pat was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved to serve in many capacities.

Pat was the second oldest of eight children. He was the type of person that never thought about himself first-whether it was his family, country, or community. Pat joined the U.S. Air Force November 1977 to become a High Voltage Lineman in the Civil Engineering Squadron and served for 25 years. Shortly after retiring, he became a Jr. R.O.T.C instructor for 18 years at Alamogordo High School until his retirement on December 10, 2019.

Pat is survived by his wife, Javonna Tedford and his four sons, John Tedford (Stephanie), Aaron Tedford (Stephanie), Brett Tedford (Laurie), Martin Tedford (Shelene), and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

The funeral service will be held at 9:00 am, Saturday July 11th, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1800 23rd Street. Alamogordo, NM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be limited to family only. However, following the funeral service at 10:00 am there will be a drive thru celebration of life parade. Please follow the signs at the church if you choose to participate in the parade.

The Tedford family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.

To sign the online register book, please visit www.alamogordofuneralhome.org. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.

Some of the places that he happily dragged his family around the world was Azores, Spain, Japan, and Hawaii. He obtained the highest rank of any Enlisted Corp as Chief Master Sergeant, but to those who know him any rank is an understatement. Rest in Peace.

Chief Tedford was an amazing man. He was a mentor to my son and a friend. He helped my family during a time of dire need and helped to keep my children with friends. My son, Wayne McFarland, spent 4 years in the AFJROTC at Alamogordo High School. Chief Tedford's guidance and mentorship helped my son to become a fantastic young man with a drive for excellence and focused him on his future goals. Chief Tedford pushed my son and my son responded and became an amazing AFJROTC cadet.

Chief, you will be missed.

Brother Tedford always had a smile on his face when I would see him at church. When we moved to Alamogordo I was pregnant with my twins and had them shortly after moving there. They made our family feel welcomed and brought meals to our home. His absence in Alamogordo and in the Las Cruces Stake will be noticed. Our sincere condolences go out to the Tedford family.

Faith and I send many heartfelt condolences to the Tedford family. May god comfort you and surround you with love. Chief was very important to Faith as she proudly spent 4 years in ROTC learning from his wisdom, guidence and direction. He cared deeply for every one of his cadets and wanted the best for each of them. He supported Faith's decision to attend NMMI after graduating high school this past May. He told her how proud he was and asked to go with us in August to take her on the first day of attendence at NMMI. He will be with us in spirit on August 5th. We love Chief and Mrs. Tedford so very much. Heaven has gained an exceptional warrior and angel. Chief has left not only life time of memories for us all, but also a legacy that no others could match. We send much love to the entire Tedford family.

He was always such a nice man. He allowed my family the use of his canopy while selling crystal light lemonade years ago. He even gave me some money so I could be with my family that was in Utah so I wouldnt be alone for the holidays. He will be missed!

Chief Tedford was so instrumental in making me the person I am today. My love for my country came mostly from him. Some of the best memories I have involve ROTC. He is so loved and will be greatly missed by so many students. Love and prayers to the Tedford family on this tragic loss.
