Katie Musch Obituary


Born Feb. 12, 1933, in Okra, Texas, to Willis Russell and Rena Rebecca (House) McClanahan. There were no brothers or sisters.

Surviving cousins are: Walter Byerly and family of Graham, Texas, Irene Guynes-Rankin, and Martha Jo Guynes-Bailey of Rising Star, Texas, Joann House Dillard of Winters, Texas; two daughters, Jayne Shankle-Spears and family of Ardmore, Okla., and Crystal Shankle-McGuire and family of Casper, Wyo.; step-children, Cricket Musch and family of Phoenix, Diane Musch-Morgan and family of Las Cruces, N.M., Mike, Gene, Pat, Tim, and Chris Turri and families of Otero County, N.M.; and five grandchildren.

In 1950, Katie graduated from Williams High School in Brown County Texas. She became registered in Radiology and Laboratory Science. She earned a bachelor's degree attending various colleges in Brownwood, Texas, Tarrant County Jr. College in Fort Worth, and NMSU in Las Cruces, N.M. She married Harold L. Shankle in 1951. They lived in San Antonio, Texas, Biloxi, Miss., Eglin AFB in Florida, and Ft. Worth, Texas. They settled in Alamogordo in 1954. She married Marlyn Musch in 1997.

Katie always enjoyed nature, animals, and gardening. Earlier in her life she was active in the study of crystals and minerals, cave exploring, sports car racing, flying and fishing. She spent 13 years doing wildlife rehabilitation. She retired in 1997. She and Marlyn spent their summers fishing in South Dakota. She lived in Alamogordo until 2011, when she moved to Casper, Wyo., to be near her daughter, Crystal.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Blake Cemetery in Brown County, TX.
