Timothy Wilkins Obituary

Timothy George Wilkins, beloved son of George and Mary Lou Wilkins, passed away suddenly in Alamogordo, N.M., on May 22, 2016, at the age of 63.

Tim is survived by his mother, Mary Lou Wilkins, his brother, Richard Wilkins, his sister, Diana Glanville, and his beloved nieces and nephews, Bryan, Denise, Emily and Tim.

Born and raised in Sacramento, Calif., Tim moved to New Mexico in the 1980's and home became the forests of Cloudcroft, and later the high desert near Alamogordo. Possessing a natural curiosity, he tried and excelled at a number of pursuits including working for the USFS, long-distance trucking, and most satisfyingly, becoming an award-winning chef at resorts in Cloudcroft and Kerrville, Texas. Most recently, Tim shared his good nature with the "regulars", driving the bus route between Alamogordo and Las Cruces, and establishing strong bonds with his coworkers.

Tim loved the air and light in his adopted home and began to paint prolifically later in his life. His vibrant watercolors, often with a hidden face peering out from the background, will make us smile and remember his playful and complex sides. He was also a prolific reader and usually the most educated man in the room, though he liked to keep that attribute undercover.

Tim remained an ocean-fog man at heart, spending vacations with his family and friends on the California coast. The love he had for his family and longtime friends, and their love of him, was a constant. His irresistible grin and the twinkle in his blue eyes live on in our memories. He will be missed beyond measure. Be at peace, dear one.

The Wilkins family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.

I met Timmy in 1988 when I went to work with him at The Lodge in Cloudcroft NM. He was always so sweet and funny; always making me laugh. I am so very sad to learn of his passing. I saw him many times driving the little bus and he always had a smile for me. I will miss him terribly.

My sisters told me about Timmys sudden death. I am so sorry for your loss. Fond memories of him. He was always playing with my younger sister, Sandy. They were both so young 9 years and under. Lost contact when the family moved from River Park. Sweet memories.

I have fond memories of Timmy when were younger. We used to go to the store and buy plastic army men toys. His freckles, blue eyes, grin and personality were adorable. Great memories. Timmy will missed.

So many fond memories of Timmy and his family who were our neighbors growing up in River Park. We are so sorry about his sudden passing. What an amazing an interesting life he had. Timmy was about 8 or 9 or younger when we first met him. I have been trying to find him on FB the last couple of years but was unsuccessful.

On May 24th, I traveled through Las Cruces and Alamagordo. I wondered what life is like in Alamogordo. And every once in awhile I wonder what became of Tim Wilkins. I don't recall seeing him at Sacramento High reunions. This obituary of Tim answers both questions. Wow! Sorry to hear of his death at 63. First met him in 2nd grade at Caleb Greenwood in River Park, Sacramento. I remember him as a feisty, athletic kid. It does sound like he had a good, full life. White Sands and the beautiful country around southern New Mexico must have been inspirational for Tim as it has been for so many artists. I would love to see his paintings.

I am just sitting here reading Tim's obit and the phone rings and it is Jean Veon telling me about Tim. What a coincidence. I had the privilege of living next door to the Wilkins family and working with Tim at Mason Paint. It is hard to believe that this big strong person is no longer among the living. Who ever wrote this is right, he could light up any room he was in. What great memories. I am going to be in New York city on June 11th otherwise I would be at the remembrance.
