Reynaldo Monroy Chavez (Ricky), loving husband, father, uncle, nino and child of Our Lord Jesus Christ, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017. Ricky was born November 4, 1945, to Jose and Juanita Chavez, he was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mary, Katie, Joe and Josephine.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ramona Leonora Chavez; four children, Reynaldo Jr., Philip John, Matthew Rey & wife Sheila, Monci Jo & husband Jimmy; four grandchildren; Marina, Joseph, Xavier, and Jimmy Reynaldo; two great-grandchildren; Bradley and Carol; very special family members Timothy Farr, Gilbert and Elizabeth Morales, their children Lorenzo and Victoria; and Marcellus.
Ricky retired from PNM after 38 years of service as a Gas Technician, after retirement he started substitute teaching for the Alamogordo Public Schools, where he had the ability to inspire many young high school students. Ricky was active in his parish of Immaculate Conception where he taught religious education and played guitar for the choir. Ricky was known to many as a wonderful musician and he encouraged everyone he could to pursue their musical talents. His family is confident that he is singing with the choir of angels he always wanted. He had a great interest in languages, besides being proficient in English and Spanish he taught himself German, Tagalog and Arabic.
Reynaldo has been cremated and will be interred later in Las Cruces. His family will honor his wishes with not having a funeral mass instead he requested a celebration of life.
His family will celebrate his life in August of this year with details to follow later. Ricky always had a joke for everyone, a smile on his face, and music in his heart.
The Chavez Family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.

Condolences to the Chavez family on the passing of Rey. I will always remember what a great musician he was. He taught me a lot when I played in the choir. He was always a very strong Christian man. God bless you all!

My sincerest condolences go out to the family. May you find comfort knowing that God has put forth an arrangement which will allow us to enjoy life forever rather then experiencing death or the death of our loved ones. John 3:16

Being part of a family doesn't have to always be by blood but in the love that you have for people. Rip in peace Rey, thank you for being such a wonderful friend. Will cherish all the beautiful memories of teaching class, hearing you sing for mass and having you sing to my mom for her birthday. My condolences to all of your family. I love you all.

When Ken and I were 1800 miles away from home, your Dad and Mom welcomed us with open arms and hearts. We will never forget their love for each other, too. Your Dad used to tease us about our Pennsylvania accents! Love and blessings to all your family.

Thank you for being such a wonderful inspiration in my life. You showed me so many things, I couldn't be more blessed than to have you as my Nino. You showed me the light of the Lord, and it shines brighter than ever! I can hear you singing and playing your guitar in the best choir ever! Heaven just got one of the most beautiful angels ever. Nino you will truly be missed! I'll love you always

It's hard to believe my dad's really gone. I know he's not REALLY gone, and the signs he's sent me over the last few days assure me that he will be looking out for us, and that his love is strong. My favorite memories of my dad are the simple ones: going to white sands on Friday nights after he got home from work; having him come home randomly and saying "pack your bags, we're going on vacation!"; the house always being filled with the sound of his beautiful voice and guitar; his delicious pozole. There are so many things I keep thinking about, and will always treasure these memories. Rest In Peace dad, and have fun rejoicing with the Angels!
