Velmo was my best friend during he junior/senior high school days in Omaha. I moved away in high school and lost contact with him shortly thereafter. I recently was attempting to Google him in anticipation that he might still be living in Nebraska. Velmo was a unique individual. No one has ever made me laugh as he did in his high school years. He was a master at humor and was always there as a friend. In 10th grade we made an audiotape of the Pillsbury Bake Off. It was a spoof of course, but Velmo was hilarious. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

I was totally shocked and surprised. You just never think of your friend as being mortal. Velmo grew up a block away from me in the Keystone area. I'll always remember Velmo's little red Volkswagen and how we spent many of our weekends together. Just a few years back (well actually quite a few years) Mike Engstrom and I came up to spend the fourth of July with him and his family. It was a great time. It was then that I met his lovely wife and son Petey.
My greatest condolence.

Velmo was a good friend, I will miss him and his stories. I wish I could have spent more time with him. His legacy is his son Peter. As long as one person remembers you fondly, you can never really die.

Velmo an I hung around together a lot during high school, college, and post-college. He was my best friend for some time, and I have spent the last few days thinking about the things we did together when we were younger. I will always have a great memory of his sense of humor as well as his dedication to his endeavorsin life. He was a very hard working guy. I was always impressed by how much of the world not only that he saw but also that he lived in. My condolences and best wishes for all of his family and friends left behind are offered.

When I die, if you need to weep, Cry in joy for the love you hold for me. And when you need me, put your arms around anyone and give them what you need to give me. I want to leave you something better than words or sounds. Look for me in all you cherish, and in everything that fills your soul and makes you complete. Let me live in your eyes. Love doesn’t die. We do. So when all that’s left of me is love, Give me away. .......My sincerest sympathy - Carol
