I bought my first motorcycle from Honda of Albany back in 1965 when I was a teenager. "Smitty" (Robert L. Smith) who was in the Air Force working part time for Dwain was my salesman. After graduating from Dougherty HS in Albany I entered the US Navy and was stationed in Orlando. After completing basic training I stopped by the Honda shop in Albany to say, "Hi" and shaking my hand and congratulations, Dwain told me he had just opened a dealership in Orlando on Orange Blossom Trail and that Smitty was his manager there. He suggested I stop by there too. I did and it wasn´t long before I was working for Service Manager "Flip" turning wrenches. A couple years later I moved up into sales. I had an advantage selling Hondas because after being a mechanic I knew our products literally inside and out. One of my customers was a flight instructor and I was making enough money selling Hondas that I soon got my private pilot certification and bought an airplane from Showalter located at what was then Herndon airport. Much later I completed AFROTC at USC in Los Angeles, CA; retired from the USAF and am an active pilot still today.
I often use Dwain as an example of the most honest businessman I have ever known. He took care of his customers and he took care of his employees. As I look back, working for Dwain at Honda of Orange County was the only time in my life that I got paid for having fun.
Dwain, may you rest in peace and know that you changed lives for the better - especially mine.

Dottie, I bought a 305 Honda CA-77 Dream from Dwain in 1963 and a CB-77 Super Hawk in 1965. I delivered newspapers for the Albany Herald which was next door to T&M Triumph on Pine Ave, Albany, GA. Later I was at Dougherty HS across from the location on the east Albany Express way. I remember you and Dwain and the sporty little car that you owned for a while. I just happened to check obituaries and remembered the name. I just want you to know that Dwain and you both have a fond place in my memory. I hope to see you both again. My condolences to you and your family. Larry Hammack
