Ivan was born Dec. 2, 1930 in Pocatello, Idaho to Willard and Edith Margaret Hill Archibald. He attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1948. He was also a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ivan married Barbara Ann Knudsen on June 10, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in 1953 in the Idaho Falls Temple. This union was blessed with seven children.

American Potato sent him and his family to Stevens Point, Wisconsin where as plant engineer he oversaw the building of a new potato processing plant.
He returned to the West, living in Green River and then Lander, Wyoming. He worked at Allied Chemical and later the City of Lander. He bought a motel in Lander which he and Barbara ran for several years. They moved back to Pocatello to retire. Barbara died in 2005.
Ivan married Sylvia Chapman Althouse on Sept. 5 2006. They lived in Blackfoot and the Salt Lake Valley area.
Ivan loved to hunt, fish and camp with his family in all four seasons. He was a man of many talents which he passed on to his children.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents, Willard and Edith; and two sisters, Thelma Mae Godfrey and Wilda Ann Armstrong.
He is survived by one sister, Margaret Millward; and numerous nieces and nephews. From his marriage with Barbara he is survived by two daughters and five sons, Cherie (Roy) Ash, Gloria (Scott) Kirwan, Robert (Carrie) Archibald, Stephen (Jackie) Archibald, Michael (Deb) Archibald, Phillip (Cheron) Archibald and Trent (Lilia) Archibald. From his marriage with Sylvia: one stepdaughter, Melanie (Steve) Zumwalt and five stepsons, Aaron Althouse, Scott (JoAnn) Smith, Dennis ( Janice) Smith, Kerry ( Diane) Smith and Robin Smith. Between both marriages he is survived by 51 grandchildren; 90 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Alameda Stake Center, 930 E. Alameda Road, Pocatello. It is with a heavy heart that we all here say a fond farewell to a good man and a close friend. Ivan was an inpiration to all that knew him, a source of strength when I was weak. It was he who confirmed me into the church and led me to want to know more about the Lord Christ and his great love for us. To the family I simply say this, be of good cheer, he is with the savior now uneffected by time or age, without pain or worry and waiting to take his family home. I too have suffered the loss of my Mother in days just passed, so please remember her also in your prayers. I miss all of you wonderful friends from my youth and pray that the dear Lord watches out for you. Mike, Phil and Steve feel free to call 7155449944 I would love to hear from you again. So sorry for your loss. Your Friend Tim Zimmerman

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Ivan at Basic American Foods for many years. A true gentleman was Ivan. Patient, quiet and caring - a real fine fellow with a great work ethic. It was a pleasure to be associated with Ivan - he will be missed.
