Ernest Russell, of Amarillo, passed away January 30, 2019 following a brief illness. He was followed in death on February 5, 2019 by his wife of 67 years, Linda Russell.
Ernest Russell was born April 16, 1925 in Panhandle, Texas to T.E. and Alma Russell. He attended school in Panhandle. He served during WWII where he earned among other citations a Purple Heart. He later graduated from West Texas State College with a degree in Business Administration.
Linda Burba was born June 30, 1932 in Pampa, Texas to John L. and Lydia Burba. She attended school in Skellytown and White Deer, Texas and continued her education at West Texas State College.
Ernest and Linda met at WTSC and were married March 3, 1951. They spent the early years of their marriage in the Texas Panhandle. Ernest became a personnel officer with the VA hospital system and the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Following several subsequent moves, Ernest and Linda returned to the Panhandle where Ernest became the Chief, Section of Personnel for Helium Operations in Amarillo. It was a joy to once again be close to family and longtime friends.
Ernest and Linda are survived by their daughters Karen Plummer (Dennis) of Amarillo and Nancy Chambers (Keith) of Lake City, Colorado and grandchildren Erik Mohn of Chandler, Arizona and Cara and Kayla Chambers of Lake City, Colorado.
Family will receive visitors at Griggs, Schooler Gordon Funeral Home on February 14, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church on February 15, 2019 at 11:00 with Pastor Bill Ivins officiating.
The family would like to thank the loving care givers at Brookdale Medipark West, Bivins Pointe and BSA Hospice of the Southwest. Family suggests memorials be to St. Paul United Methodist Church, BSA Hospice of the Southwest or a favorite charity.
