I regret I didn't send this note to him when he was alive, but I wanted his family to know what an exceptional influence Dr. Ginsberg had on my life when I was a medical student at CWRU. I was telling a colleague today that as a second year medical student, I approached him for permission to take a test early, as my mother was in the intensive care unit at a hospital in New York. He looked at me thoughtfully and many seconds passed. I was sure my request had offended him and would be interpreted as a lack of commitment to my studies. Instead, he said that if I had to think about a test at this time in my life, I should perhaps rethink why I was in medical school. He excused me from the test and refocused my moral compass, which had become distorted in the intense world of medical training. Over the years, I have recognized the rarity of his integrity and moral leadership, and I strive to emulate it in my life as an ophthalmologist and faculty member at Stanford and the VA, teaching medical students and residents and taking care of patients. I'm so sorry for the family's loss and think fondly of Dr. Ginsberg, who personified the best of humanity in many ways.

Dave was a wonderful caring man, I loved to go to his house and listen to him play the guitar. My Mom and I send our deepest sympathy on your loss.

Dave was always caring and always funny. Rarely without a smile or a kind word for others - a true gentle man. We treasure the wonderful times together. With much love to you all during this very sad time. Margaret, Scott and Lee Ramsay
