Teddy Todd Obituary

Todd, Ted 11/13/1935 - 11/28/2017 Teddy (Ted) Arlen Todd of Saline, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, November 28th at his home following an illness. Ted was born in Hillsdale, MI on November 13, 1935 to Andrew and Barbara (Ebert) Todd. Surviving are one sister Patt (Gary) Male of Coldwater, MI and step-brother Kermit (Buzz) Ingle and wife Gwen of Sterrett, Alabama. Ted was preceded in death by his father Andrew; mother Barbara (Ebert-Todd) Ingle; stepfather Kermit Ingle; stepsister, Janet (Ingle) McNeil and her husband Darryl; and half-brother Robert Ingle, all from Hillsdale. Ted graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1954 and furthered his education at Western Michigan College where he received his bachelor's degree in education and met his wife Kay Frances Turner of Portage, MI who survives. Ted and Kay were married the day after his graduation in 1958 and moved to Tecumseh, MI where he started his teaching career, and furthered his education at Siena Heights. They have two children, Teri (Tony) Gugino of Ypsilanti and Tim (Jessica) Todd of Saline. They became grandparents to Paul (Tori) and Ben Gugino and Andrew and Alexandra Todd. Their first great grandchild, and Ted's namesake, is expected in January. Ted retired from Tecumseh Public Schools in 1990 having taught Jr. High math. He was also a guidance counselor in the High School. During that time he coached Jr. High and High School football, basketball, and track. About the time he was ready to give up coaching, he wasrecruited to coach high school girls volleyball. Ted had little experience with the sport, but developed a successful program that won district and regional championships, and a runner-up in the statefinals. To his death he had contact with many players from these teams, and was proud of the girls he coached who have gone on to become volleyball coaches. Upon retirement Ted sketched out plans for a house that he wanted to build on a lake. Those plans came to fruition and following retirement Ted and Kay spent their summers on Long Lake in Cheboygan, MI. He also wanted to spend their winters in a warm place down south. They soon became snowbirds and settled in Naples, Florida every winter for the past 20 years. It was during these winter months that Ted took up tennis and and in recent years golf. Ted suffered a stroke in 2004 and this prompted a move to be near their children in the Ann Arbor area. Ted will be remembered for his wit, love of family and friends, playing cards, and being the best husband, father, and papa imaginable. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, December 2nd with a visitation with family and friends from 9:30am until 11:00, and a memorial service immediately following at the Tecumseh Compass Learning Center (old middle school) located at 307 North Maumee Street, Tecumseh, MI 49286. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Memory Support Center at Brecon Village in Saline, MI. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.
