When I see or hear the name William Chase, the best memories of my 73 years come to me. Bill, Helen, Anne, Catherine, and my buddy, Bob were like a 2nd family to me. Bill was always kind easy going and willing to take time to make me feel welcome, or explain how to do tasks, it was never work, always fun. Whether it was working, in the darkroom, on the Model A ford, making root beer or the Chase's Calendar! Sleeping over one summer night Bob and I thought it was fun peeling wall paper off his bedroom walls. Bill saw this the next day and just smiled and said, okay let's finish. We finished peeling wall paper and then painted Bob's room. Great memories in the dark room or the summer I got to go to Montague Michigan, on the shore of Lake Michigan and White Lake Channel. I was so overwhelmed with gratitude for this adventure. This world and Nels Christensen are better for having Bill Chase's influence on them. I truly love this man and could never forget him because of the large impact he had on me.

I have had the privilege of knowing Bill Chase for at least 20 years. He was such a scholarly, gracious, interesting and considerate man. I enjoyed every minute I spent with him. I will certainly miss him. My condolences to Cathy, Bob, Ann, and the rest of the family.

I have admired my grandfather my whole life. I remember him taking me downtown Flint when it used to be a busy city. We'd go to the old Michigan National Bank and go in the turnstile doors, that was my favorite part! I think I was about seven, when he took me into The Flint Journal to show me where he worked as the Head Librarian. I remember seeing the huge printing press where the paper used to be printed daily. I remember telling him that I wanted to work for a newspaper someday too. He told me I needed to do a lot of reading, and writing, but he thought I would do well in the journalism.
He loved taking pictures and had some great cameras. He was always taking pictures and videos, at all of our family gatherings.
When I was in eighth grade, he bought me my first 35 mm camera, which opened up a whole behind the camera lens. I was hooked! My senior year in high school, I joined the yearbook class. It want until my 30s I decided to follow my dream and work as a photo journalist for my hometown paper in Davison. I was so proud to finally follow in his footsteps. It was such an honor to have him read my stories and look at my photos.
He always had time to listen to what was going on in my life. He always had sound advice too. We'd spend hours discussing world events, news, and other topics. When My children, Craig, and Stephanie, were older, they enjoyed doing the same.
Learn something new every day. Is one of his mottos I remember and try to follow. My grandfather was a wonderful role model. His modesty is something I admire the most about him.
So bye for now,
Love, Monica, Craig, and Stephanie
