Audrey A. Beal
Spring Lake Heights
Audrey A. Beal, of Spring Lake Heights, passed away Thursday. Born in The Bronx, NY, Audrey was the wife of Colonel Harold Beal and traveled the world. They were stationed in Germany and Virginia and lived in The Bronx and resided at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY before moving to Spring Lake Heights 37 years ago.
Audrey was a graduate of Saints Peter & Paul High School in The Bronx. While in school, she worked in the mailroom of Coats & Clark Co. on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
Audrey unselfishly served her community. In 1984, she became one of the first full-time volunteers to fight hunger at the Jersey Shore when she started working at the Boniface Center in Spring Lake, now The Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties. Years later, she volunteered her time organizing the weekly "Soup and Sociability" program designed to instill camaraderie among residents in Spring Lake Heights.
One of her greatest joys came from organizing and leading trips across the United States and around the world for retirees at the Jersey Shore which she did well into her late 70s. Her other passions included listening and dancing to big band music, attending Broadway shows, rooting on all New York sports teams, tracing her family's ancestry back hundreds of years and any topic related to The Bronx.
She was a parishioner of St. Catharine & St. Margaret Parish in Spring Lake.
Audrey was predeceased by a brother, Robert McCarthy, and a sister, Claire Poveromo.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold, seven children including Jeanne Weaver of Havre de Grace, MD, Harold Beal and his wife Patti of Milwaukee, WI, Catherine Cheney and her husband Joseph of Indio, CA, Jo Ann Speechly and her husband Stephen of St. Augustine, FL, Matthew Beal and his wife Collette of Brick, NJ, Mark Beal and his wife Michele of Toms River, NJ, Christopher Beal and his wife Holly of Scarsdale, NY, and 18 grandchildren and more than 20 great grandchildren.
A mass will be offered Tuesday 9:00 a.m. at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Audrey's name to the Spring Lake First Aid Squad, PO Box 94, Spring Lake, NJ 07762.

So sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. I'll always remember her infectious laugh and good cheer. The weekends we spend visiting at West Point and the football games is a cherished memory. Unfortunately, my employment situation prohibited me from traveling to NJ. I would have greatly enjoyed seeing every one (20 great grandchildren!).
Take care.
Love and best wishes,
your cousin, Gene Poveromo

Harry and family,
So sorry for the loss of Audrey, our neighbor and friend. She was the first person to welcome us to the neighborhood seventeen years ago and introduce us to the senior trips where me met wonderful friends. We will miss seeing her on her porch, but will remember her and her family in our prayers.
