Clarence was a big and influential part of my life through karate for over 15 years. I am so sad and sorry to hear of his passing and feel terrible we lost contact over the last few years when he was unable to train. For a stretch of over ten years I could count on seeing Clarence four to five times every week. Sometimes as my teacher and sometimes as a training partner, but always as a friend.

At the end of every karate class we would say these words: Seek Perfection of Character; Be Faithful; Endeavor; Respect Others; and Refrain from Violent Behavior. I know Clarence didn't just say these words but truly believed in them. I know this because he was the epitome of them. Clarence was one of the few truly kind souls in this world and I am going to miss him terribly. I wish I could simply tell him Thank You. Rest in Peace Sempai.

I trained with Clarence in Shotokan karate. He would lead the class and always make us work hard, focusing on the basics.

I sometimes dreaded his work outs because they were so hard, but after we all felt great. I always wanted to tell him that I appreciated his leadership and direction but I never did.

Thank you Clarence. It's hard to know you left this world, but good to know you were in it. Part of you lives on in me, and that has made me better.

Jim
