George "Bud" Spears, 87, of Toms River, NJ, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 surrounded by family.
He was born on February 12, 1930 in Manhattan, NY and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict before becoming a letter carrier at the Belford Post Office in Belford, NJ. He retired in 1991 after 36 years of service.
He loved to bowl, play golf and to watch the New York Giants, even though he'd swear never to watch them again after they'd lose.
Bud was also a member of the Independent Fire Company, Belford, NJ, a life member of the Port Monmouth VFW, and served as a Troop Leader of the Boy Scouts Troop 227, Belford, NJ for 22 years.
He was predeceased by his son, Frederick Spears.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Phillis, four children and their spouses, George and Daniela Spears, Karen and Peter Geronimo, Kevin and Ellen Spears and Loni Lucina, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a sister Etta Schalk, sisters in law Janis Jacques, Iris Smith and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday August 16, 2017 from 4-8pm with a prayer service at 7pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A funeral service will be offered on Thursday August 17, 2017 at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the BG William C Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.

My family and I are sorry for your loss. I had only gotten the opportunity to be with Bud a few times as a child but from what I remember he was a great guy and Grandma (Etta) always spoke very highly of him.
