James A. Haag, Sr.
Lavallette - James A. Haag Sr., 76 of Lavallette, NJ, passed away on March 7, 2018, at Hampton Ridge in Toms River, NJ. He was born in Linden, NJ, and attended St. Elizabeth Grade School and Linden H.S. James worked for Smith Cadillac in Elizabeth, NJ. After marrying Evelyn, they moved to Toms River, where he went to work for Trenary Pontiac. The family then moved to Lavallette. James went to work for Ohio Casualty Insurance in 1969 as a multiline adjuster, retiring in 2005. He and his son started an Independent Claims Business after his retirement. He acted as a general partner in Customer Relations.
James was a Third Degree Knight at the Knights of Columbus, an ordained Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Lavallette. He served several years as President of the Holy Name Society. James was a long term member of the Lavallette Recreation Committee, and volunteered his time for 15 years as the bus driver for Lavallette Elementary School for after school recreation activities.
James was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Elizabeth (Hooper) Haag, and his brother John Haag. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn Louise Hampton Haag; his son James A. Haag Jr, and wife Karin Mc Enearney of Toms River; his daughter Jennifer Haag and husband Gregory Kautz of Jenson Beach, Florida; his sister Mary Loretta Haag and husband Dave Treich of Lavallette; and grandchildren Madeline Lori Haag, Sara Elizabeth Kautz, and Matthew J. Kautz.
A Memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, March 18th, from 11 to 1PM, at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of James to Destiny Food Pantry, 236 Brick Blvd., Brick, NJ 08723.
