John Bruce Cowper, Jr.
Berkeley Twp. - Bruce passed away February 12, 2018 at The Elms of Cranbury. He was 89. Bruce was born in Nutley, NJ and grew up in Yonkers, NY. He later moved to Norwalk, CT and Kenilworth, NJ before moving to Ocean County. A graduate of Pace University, Bruce earned his CPA license in 1961 and retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1990, after 28 years of service. Bruce served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of KWVA Chapter 53, Union County, also serving a term as NJ KWVA State Treasurer. Bruce was a member of the Ocean County Baptist Church. He also volunteered countless hours with the Boy Scouts of America, and was awarded for selfless dedication. Bruce loved the outdoors and at one time owned property in the Poconos that he and his family visited often. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, John, Sr. and Christina Cowper, his first wife, Elizabeth J. Cowper, his sister, Marion Emrich, his daughter, Nancy Mohamed, and his second wife, Edith M. Cowper. He is survived by his children: Mary (John) Kunkel, Richard (Mary) Cowper, Robert (Diana) Cowper, Karen Cowper, and Bruce (Dana) Cowper; brothers and sisters-in-law; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Feb. 19, 2018 from 4-8pm at A.S. Cole Son & Co., 22 No. Main Street, Cranbury, NJ. Funeral service, Feb. 20, 2018 at 11:30am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at BG Doyle Mem Cemetery in North Hanover, NJ. For a full obituary and to send condolences visit www.saulfuneralhomes.com. My Grandmother Mary Leddy was godmother to one of Bruce's Children. My Grandmother Mary Leddy and Patricia Burns were sisters. I knew Bruce and Janie well. Bruce helped me learn my times tables when I was in first grade in St Joseph's school in Yonkers in 1955
