Nicholas DeSarno III
AGE: 56 • Brick Township formerly Neptune
Neptune native and Brick Township resident Nicholas DeSarno III passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 24, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 56.
Born in Neptune on Nov. 17, 1960 to Madeline and Nicholas DeSarno Jr., Nick attended Neptune High School.
After working a stint as standard bred horse groomer, Nick became a truck driver for Neptune Township's Department of Public Works for many years.
Prior to his death, he worked as a cab driver for Mantoloking Taxi and loved meeting, learning about and chatting with the people he drove on his daily routes. Striking up a good conversation with a newfound friend was his little-things-in-life joy.
A loving father and husband , Nick defended and protected those he loved with a "don't mess with them" passion, treasured family outings, a good horse race, a classic mob movie, a little Rat Pack, Billy Joel or Springsteen music and some good Italian food capped with a "Saluti!" and a wink.
And avid football fan, Nick cheered on his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, with gusto and held out determined hope that they would win that Super Bowl one day.
In true Sinatra spirit, always cherishing the people in his life and special moments with them, he took pride in doing it his way.
Nick is predeceased by: his father, Nicholas DeSarno Jr.; and his beloved son, Joeseph.
He is survived by: his wife, Elizabeth Young-DeSarno; his mother, Madeline DeSarno, of Neptune; his beloved daughter, Nicole, "Bookie" to him; his brother, Patrick DeSarno; his sister, Debbie Ferguson, of Bradley Beach; a niece, Jessica Ferguson; great-niece and nephew, Rachel and Tyler; and a cousin who was especially dear to him, Frank Doremus.
A viewing is set for Sunday, Jan. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7pm service at Francioni Taylor & Lopez Funeral Home, 1200 10th Avenue, Neptune, NJ.
