David Breazeale Obituary

David Alanson Breazeale

Novato, CA - David Alanson Breazeale died peacefully on Dec. 6, 2017 at his home.

Dave was born in Long Branch on Jan. 18, 1939 to Mary Conover and John Vincent Breazeale. He lived in Freehold, graduated from Freehold High School as the Salutatorian, Class of 1957, and was awarded a Procter and Gamble scholarship to attend Brown University in Providence, RI. He graduated cum laude from Brown in 1961 with a major in philosophy and minor in math. He served in the US Army from 1963-1965 in the Intelligence Corps in the Midwest and Korea. Then he worked as a math teacher and later as a computer programmer trainee in Newark.

Dave married Ellen Moriarty in 1973 and they lived in Brooklyn Heights, NY, then moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1975, after Dave was recruited to work for Bank of America. After working 22 years there, Dave formed his own consulting firm, Deerfield Systems, and spent the last 10 years of his career as an IT manager with McKesson Corp. He was an acknowledged expert in retirement and order fulfillment systems.

As a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church of Novato, Dave served as a deacon and was a faithful member of its men's bible group and Property Committee. He was a lover of classical, opera and jazz music; an enthusiastic and accomplished gardener; a connoisseur of good food and old movies; and a life-long fan of the New York Giants and Knicks. He could talk about sports endlessly. Dave was a gentle and kind man who deeply appreciated nature and had a soft spot for animals. He and his wife had 20 cats and two dogs during their 44-year marriage.

Dave is survived by his wife, Ellen; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Breazeale and Mary Mack (Ronald); six nieces and nephews; eight grandnieces and nephews; and four great grandnieces and nephews. His brother, Jack, and sister, Ruth predeceased him.

A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Novato, 710 Wilson Avenue, on Saturday, Jan. 6th, at 11 a.m.

After reading Dave's obituary I am reminded that we should make the time to really know friends and their life history long before their passing.

We are so sorry for your loss, Ellen. Caitlin was so grateful for Dave's support as an alumnae when he found she was accepted at Brown University, and still remembers fondly writing the cat diaries when they were left to her care back in her middle school days.~The Fillman-Brownes
